Terms of use

1. What Sooka is

Sooka is an online classifieds marketplace where people in Uganda advertise items, property, jobs and services, and contact each other. Sooka is not a party to any sale. Buyers and sellers deal directly with each other and are responsible for their own transactions.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
• You sign in with a Ugandan mobile number that you own. Keep the SMS codes we send you private.
• You are responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
• One person may hold one personal account. Businesses may hold a business account.

3. Posting ads

• Ads must follow our posting rules: be honest, use real photos of the actual item, and never advertise prohibited items.
• You must have the right to sell what you advertise. For land and property, you must be the owner or authorised by the owner.
• Ads last 30 days. You can renew them for free from My ads.
• We may review, edit for formatting, hold, reject or remove any ad, and may suspend accounts that break these terms or the law.

4. Contacting other users

Use phone numbers and chat only to discuss the ad. Spam, harassment, threats and attempts to defraud other users are not allowed and may be reported to the Uganda Police.

5. Paid features

Posting is free for individuals. If we introduce paid features (for example, featured ads paid for with Mobile Money), their prices and refund rules will be shown before you pay.

6. Safety and liability

We work hard to keep scammers off Sooka, but we cannot check every ad or user, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety or legality of items advertised. Please follow our safety advice. To the extent the law allows, Sooka is not liable for losses arising from dealings between users.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the text and photos you post. You allow Sooka to display, resize and promote them on Sooka and in Sooka marketing while the ad is live.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms and will show the date of the latest version on this page. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda. Questions? See our help page.
